Large Scarf Tying Ideas: One Chenille Scarf, Three Easy Ways

Large scarf tying ideas can turn a plain winter coat into a finished outfit: one long chenille scarf, tied three easy ways, adds texture and softness in about a minute.

You have a good winter coat, and it does the job. But every day it looks the same. The missing piece is often just a scarf, and how you tie it matters as much as the scarf itself.

Today I am showing you one long, soft scarf worn over a camel coat in three ways. Each takes seconds, none needs a trick, and they all work in a mild winter, too.

The Formula to Remember

Pick one long scarf, tie it three ways and keep the rest of the outfit simple. That is how a plain winter coat becomes one of your favorite outfits.

The Easy Formula

STEP 1

Start with one long scarf

A ribbed chenille scarf in charcoal gray goes with almost everything: camel, black, navy, cream and denim. It is soft, lightweight and long enough to drape, loop or knot, so one scarf gives you several looks. It also makes a lovely gift for anyone who loves soft winter accessories.

STEP 2

Wear it over a long coat

A long camel coat is the easiest backdrop for a charcoal scarf. Let the ends fall down the front for a long, lean line, or tuck them inside the collar on a windy day. It is warm enough for chilly mornings and light enough for a mild Florida winter.

STEP 3

Keep everything else simple

Let the scarf be the star. Cream sweater, dark jeans, brown ankle boots and a small quilted crossbody bag keep the outfit calm, so the texture of the scarf is what people notice.

Three Ways to Tie It

Drape It Long

Let both ends hang straight down the front over your coat. This is the easiest way to tie a long scarf for errands, coffee and weekend walks.

Loop It Once

Wrap the scarf once around your neck and let the loop sit softly at the collar. It stays put while you walk and shows off your bag.

Knot It at the Front

Cross the ends and tie a loose knot at your collarbone. It looks polished for a holiday lunch, a gift run or a wrapped present.
